PAN card declares man ‘dead’

The PAN card received by city resident Sanjay Saini.

Chandigarh: In a classic case, a PAN card issued to a local resident, Sanjay Saini, has declared him “dead”. Instead of his photograph on the card (see pic), the issuing authority (Income Tax Department) has mentioned “deceased”. Shocked over receiving a card with his “death” certification, Sanjay told The Tribune that his surname was missing in his initial PAN card, following which he applied for a new one. The new card carried his surname, but the word “deceased” was inscribed in the space meant for a photograph. “I fail to understand how the Income Tax Department committed such a mistake,” he said.
