Mohali, July 21
Mohali has been found to be “vulnerable” by the district health authorities in connection with dengue fever.
Civil Surgeon Rita Bhardwaj said here today that since a large number of cases were reported from Mohali last year, the area appeared to be “vulnerable”.
More than 2,000 dengue fever cases were reported from Mohali district last year.
Bhardwaj said creating awareness about the disease among educated people in Mohali was a challenging task. People often questioned the authority of the assigned team to issue challans to persons found violating the guidelines of the Health Department. Such offenders did not empty their water coolers on a weekly basis as a matter of responsibility, which resulted in the formation of mosquito larvae.
The Civil Surgeon said the team members had now been told to carry a copy of the relevant department orders to show to residents who questioned their authority. She said it was much more easier to make people aware of the disease in villages.
Officials of the Health Department and the MC are going from door to door to create awareness regarding dengue among residents and also to check whether the water in their coolers was being changed regularly. About 200 houses are covered on a daily basis. Pamphlets are also being distributed and fogging carried out in Mohali. Hoardings to create awareness have also been put up in parts of the town.
The team members are at present focusing on Phases IV , V and XI as more dengue cases were reported from these areas last year.
