Mohali Deputy Mayor called for meeting

MOHALI: The Local Bodies Department, Punjab, has called a meeting on January 17 at noon at the Municipal Bhawan in Chandigarh regarding a show-cause notice issued to Mohali Deputy Mayor Manjit Singh Sethi for alleged use of unparliamentary language and misconduct during an MC House meeting in July 2016.

Mohali, January 15

The Local Bodies Department, Punjab, has called a meeting on January 17 at noon at the Municipal Bhawan in Chandigarh regarding a show-cause notice issued to Mohali Deputy Mayor Manjit Singh Sethi for alleged use of unparliamentary language and misconduct during an MC House meeting in July 2016.

In a letter issued on January 12, the Local Bodies Department has asked former MC Commissioner Uma Shankar Gupta, Deputy Mayor Sethi and MC Superintendent Jaswinder Singh to be present for the meeting and bring the record, if any, of the alleged misconduct.

Sethi said he had not received any letter. He said, “I am hearing this from mediapersons. Anyway, regarding the show-cause notice that was issued in 2016, I had already given my reply and had appeared in person before the department to explain the issue.”

In July 2016, the MC meeting was adjourned after a ruckus marred the proceedings with Sethi and the then MC Commissioner, Uma Shanker Gupta, trading corruption charges and using unparliamentary language. — TNS
