The Municipal Corporation has decided to impose a penalty on Arya Toll Infra Limited, which has been managing the parking lots in the city, after its internal report found that parking employees were engaged in overcharging motorists at the Sukhna Lake lot.
Tejdeep Singh Saini, Joint Commissioner, MC, said the amount of the penalty was under consideration and a decision in this regard would be taken soon. He said a warning had been issued to the company. The company has informed the MC that it has terminated the services of 13 parking attendants with immediate effect. Saini said an inquiry was marked after he received complaints regarding overcharging at the lake parking. The inquiry report found that some commuters were charged Rs 25 for parking whereas the rate was Rs 10.
The MC has been receiving several complaints of overcharging by company attendants at various places. Saini said the MC had formed teams to check all parking lots randomly. The company had hiked the parking rates from Rs 5 to Rs 10 for a four-wheeler and Rs 2 to Rs 5 for a two-wheeler in December last year.
