A local court today sentenced a man convicted of kidnapping and raping a five-year-old girl to 15 years of imprisonment. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 1.65 lakh on him. Rs 1.50 lakh of the penalty will be given to the victim.

Ravi Kiran, the convict, worked as a cook in the victim’s neighbourhood and was known to her and her family. On December 16 last year, he was arrested on the complaint of the victim’s mother.

She stated that her family stayed at a servant quarter of a house in Sector 21. On the day of incident, the victim had gone out to play in a park. When the victim did not return home, her mother searched for her, but in vain. Following this, she informed her husband and the police.

The victim was later found near the house where Ravi Kiran used to work.

The victim revealed that while she was playing in the park, the convict lured her with a toffee, took her to his place and raped her. A case was registered at the Sector 19 police station.
