Chandigarh man drowns in sector 29 pool

A 35-year-old man reportedly drowned in a swimming pool at Sector 29 last evening.
The victim has been identified as Shyam Narayan, a resident of Mani Majra. The police said the victim had come to the “Resa swimming pool and gym” along with his friends.
‘Had taken liquor’
DSP (East) Gurmukh Singh said the victim’s friends gave a statement that he had taken liquor. “His viscera will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination,” the DSP said.
Around 8.30 pm, the victim went into the pool and drowned. He was immediately brought out of the pool and rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, where doctors declared him brought dead. The police said the victim’s autopsy was conducted today and the body handed over to his family.
DSP (East) Gurmukh Singh said the victim’s friends gave a statement that the victim had taken liquor. “The victim’s viscera will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination,” the DSP said.
He added that the footage of CCTV cameras installed at the spot was being scrutinised.
The police have initiated inquest proceedings into the matter at the Industrial Area police station.
