Hit by Fortuner, woman dies

CHANDIGARH: A 55-year-old woman, Seeta Devi, was killed while her 15-year-old granddaughter, Saloni, was critically injured after being hit by a Fortuner in Sector 37 on Friday afternoon.

Chandigarh, April 20

A 55-year-old woman, Seeta Devi, was killed while her 15-year-old granddaughter, Saloni, was critically injured after being hit by a Fortuner in Sector 37 on Friday afternoon. The two victims were crossing the road when the SUV hit them.

The accused, Vijay Kumar, was apprehended by people and handed over to the police. The two victims were taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, where the grandmother was declared brought dead. Saloni was referred to the PGI, where her condition is stated to be critical.

The victims, residents of Sector 24, were crossing the road separating Sector 24 and 37 when the SUV hit them. A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against the accused, a resident of Sector 40. He runs a shop in Sector 22, according to police officials.

Seeta Devi had picked up Saloni from her school and they were going home at the time of the accident. According to Saloni’s uncle Basant Singh, Saloni is in the trauma centre at the PGI.
