Officials of the Income Tax Department conducted surveys at two prominent cellular stores here today.

Sources said police officials, 30 tax officials, led by Deputy Commissioners (Income Tax Department) Deepika Mohan and Loveleen Kaur, had been roped in for the operations.

As soon as the information about the raids spread, various shopkeepers in the city and nearby areas pulled down their shutters, fearing action.

Acting on a tip-off, the officials simultaneously raided Vodafone Azad Enterprises at Main Market here and the office of an Airtel dealer at Saraswati Vihar situated on the National Highway.

Sources said the teams probed the records at both stores to verify if the owners had filed I-T returns in accordance to their income. They analysed the accounts books, computer records and other cash records of the firms. The exact tax violations

by the mobile-shop owners were still unclear, sources added. The teams initiated survey at 4:15 pm in both firms. Officials were unavailable for

comments.
