The vaccination drive against the Covid pandemic in Mohali district is getting better response as more than 2,700 health workers have been vaccinated in the past one week.

Divulging details, Civil Surgeon Dr Adarshpal Kaur and District Immunisation Officer Dr Veena Jarewal said vaccine was being administered at 25 places across the district. So far, a total of 2,712 people have been vaccinated. The target is to vaccinate a total of 11,284 people.

Dr Adarshpal said vaccination was being carried out under the supervision of specialist doctors. In the first phase, the Covishield vaccine was being given to the staff of government and private health institutions only.

She said the vaccine was safe and so far no one had reported any side effect. Employees of the Health Department were coming forward for vaccination with enthusiasm. No one should hesitate to get vaccinated.

Dr Veena Jarewal said though the vaccine had been rolled out, caution was still needed. She said people should wear masks and maintain social distance. It is also important to wash hands frequently with soap and water.

Health Adviser vaccinated

Mohali: Dr KK Talwar, Adviser, Health and Medical Education, Punjab Government, took the Covid vaccine at Fortis Hospital here on Saturday. He motivated the health care workers saying “Go for vaccination, no need to fear”. He said as of now no medication or antiviral drug for novel coronavirus was available. So, vaccination was the best means to tide over pandemic. He also stressed upon the need to educate public and allay apprehensions pertaining to vaccine.

15 receive shots at Zirakpur hospital

Zirakpur: Covid vaccination drive was rolled out at Amcare Hospital here today. Fifteen out of 40 frontline workers, including doctors and nurses, were vaccinated on the first day. Dr Rachit Duggal, head of critical care who also got a jab, said the vaccination drive would continue at the hospital to cover all frontline staff. He said: “We can only defeat the virus by vaccinating ourselves. It is good that we have put the gloomy and confusing times behind and looking ahead to overcome the virus”.
