Firm operating Mohali ISBT gets notice

MOHALI:The Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Phase VI here hit another controversy when the Mohali Municipal Corporation issued a notice to the chief general manager of the ISBT-cum-commercial complex, directing to pay “pending” property tax dues, amounting to around Rs 18 lakh, failing which the property will be attached/sealed.

The Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Phase VI here hit another controversy when the Mohali Municipal Corporation issued a notice to the chief general manager of the ISBT-cum-commercial complex, directing to pay “pending” property tax dues, amounting to around Rs 18 lakh, failing which the property will be attached/sealed.  

As per MC officials, the total amount of property tax was around Rs 21 lakh and the company operating the bus stand had paid only Rs 2.75 lakh as per its self-assessment. 

Confirming the development, a senior MC official said they had sent a notice to C&C company, which was running affairs of the ISBT. The firm has been told to deposit the amount till May 5. “Earlier, we had sent a notice under Section 112-B of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976, to them, and they were told to clear the dues within three days. So far, they failed to do so,” said the official. 

Earlier,s the property fell within the self-occupied non-residential building category for 2013-14 and 2014-15. “Now, from 2015-16 onwards, the property comes under various categories—bus stand, multiplex, restaurant, commercial,” added the official.   

“If the company fails to pay the amount within the stipulated time, action will be taken under Section 138 (C) of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976, and the property will be attached,” said the official. Meanwhile, Avinash Sharma, general manager (operations), ISBT, said, “Property tax has been deposited in the treasury through the MC.”
