Chandigarh, February 22

A local court today further extended the police remand of Harmehtab Singh, alias Farid, co-accused in the Akansh murder case, by two days. The police sought extension of the remand to trace the prime accused in the case, Balraj Singh Randhawa, who is still at large. The police claimed that Farid had revealed that Balraj was hiding in Amritsar following which they needed to interrogate him further.

Akansh Sen (28), nephew of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, was run over by a BMW car in Sector 9 on February 9.

According to the police, the accused, Balraj Singh Randhawa, a resident of Sector 77, Sohana, Mohali, was allegedly driving the BMW car while Farid, a resident of Radewala Farm, Landran, Mohali, was sitting next to him when the incident took place.

The police told the court that Farid was not co-operating with them and was changing his statements. The police had sought extension of his remand by three days. However, the court extended it by two days.

The court directed the  police that in case Farid was taken to Ambala, they would have to get his medical examination conducted at a government hospital in Amritsar. The court also asked the police that they would also have to get a DDR registered at the police station concerned in Amritsar regarding their visit to Amritsar along with the accused. The court also told the police that in case Farid changed his statement on the way to Amritsar or at Amritsar, then the police would have to get his statements recorded with the magistrate.
