A four-member team of explosives experts from Chandigarh today visited the mustard oil factory near the Mirch Mandi area to ascertain the cause of blast that occurred in the wee hours of Thursday.

The experts took the samples of oil, soil and construction materials of the building. The team also held a meeting with police officials at the Patiala Kotwali police station.

Notably, a 21-year-old youth, Rajat Mittal, has lost his life in the mysterious blast and some adjoining shops also got damaged due to the explosion.

Earlier, police and Fire Department officials claimed that they did not found any remains of explosive substances from the site, which suggested that no bomb-like device was present in the shop.

The forensic team that examined the site also could not ascertain as to what have caused such a huge explosion inside the shop. Right-wing leaders had also suspected the blast as an attack on the nearby RSS branch and connected it with the ongoing series of attacks on right-wing activists. — OC
