PEC Smart City Innovation Centre by April 31

CHANDIGARH:The UT Administration has set April 31 as the deadline for PEC University of Technology to commence its Smart City Innovation Centre (SCIC) which will be the first of its kind state-of-the-art innovation centre in the country.

The UT Administration has set April 31 as the deadline for PEC University of Technology to commence its Smart City Innovation Centre (SCIC) which will be the first of its kind state-of-the-art innovation centre in the country. 

UT Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal, who inaugurated the one-day workshop on SCIC, announced this while addressing the gathering.  The innovation centre will act like an urban observatory from where any institute or government agency in the country can collect data required for analysing any situation. Another thing on which this centre will work is smart technology, as the public is not techno-savvy. The centre has to work the kind of technology which can be utilised by the common man. The centre will also have to work on the cost factor of the technology. PEC director Manoj Arora decided that faculty member Rajesh Bhatia will head the centre and look after all activities. 

Bhatia said space has already been allocated on the campus where the companies which participated in the workshop today agreed to set up their execution set-up to assist the administration. He said, “Work on smart lighting is already in process and the other operations will be functional till the deadline.”, 

Surbhi Malik (IAS), Additional Commissioner, Ludhiana, said: “The definition of a smart city is variable to the interpretation of its citizens. Area-based smart city development in Ludhiana includes the concept of smart roads and smart water supply. Under the safe city project, 15,000 cameras have been installed to provide safety to the residents. Garbage management system is also a highlight as the RDF generated is used in power generation systems.


Plans for Smart City

Three zones will be developed under the Smart City project by the Chandigarh Administration

Zone I- Sector 16 and 17

Art shows will be organised in the vacant space around plaza, there will be cycle track and walking track from Sector 43 to Leisure Valley, solar roof and increase in green area in these sectors, on off days, food court will be allowed on Jan Marg 

Zone II - Sector 22 and 35 

Development of facilities for the community 

Zone III- Sector 43 

Business hub on the lines of Gurugram, theatre for cultural shows, hotels and business convention centre

Problems in city

  • Unhygienic portable water
  • Water facility for 24X7
  • No smart meter for water and electricity
  • Improper waste water system 
  • No underground power cables
