The deadlock between the Panjab University authorities and research scholars continues even after the deadline for vacating hostels was extended.

A meeting in this regard was held between hostellers and the PU authorities today. It was mediated by the Chandigarh Police today.

Research Scholars demanded that the authorities should not harass female hostel residents or they threatened to make their names public. While authorities maintained that there’s no deadlock on the issue.

“We categorically said we will not vacate hostels at any cost. Already, several scholars have left hostels under duress. Female scholars are continuously harassed by the PU authorities. We demand that girls’ hostel canteen must be opened immediately. If the supervisors continue to harass the scholars, their names will be released in the press,” stated in a press commune by SFS.

“We are in routine and constant touch with hostellers. As such, there is no deadlock. On an average, about 12 students are leaving the PU hostels on a daily basis. The Chandigarh Police have urged the protesting students to let the willing students go home. The facilitation committee of the PU will look into the genuine concerns of students regarding stay on the campus with due permission of their chairpersons/guides,” said PU spokesperson.
