Chandigarh: A Punjab Police constable was arrested by the UT police for allegedly setting an Innova Crysta on fire at Sector 15. The accused was later released on bail. The vehicle that was parked outside the owner’s house was set on fire on November 1. The accused has been identified as Kanwarpal, a native of Kotkapura, Punjab. The accused and the car owner had some argument following which the accused set his car on fire. A case was registered at the Sector 11 police station. TNS
Auto-rickshaw, mobike set on fire
Chandigarh: An unidentified miscreant set an auto and a motorcycle on fire. According to the police, the complainant, Vijay Kumar, a resident of Maloya Colony, alleged that an auto and a Pulsar motorcycle parked near his residence were set on fire on November 15. Residents came to know about the incident after which the fire was doused. The police were informed after which a case under Section 435 of the IPC was registered at the Maloya police station. The police said CCTV cameras installed in the area were being scrutinised to identify the miscreant. TNS
Man booked in dowry case
Zirakpur: The police have booked a person on the charge of torturing his wife for dowry. Anuradha Gupta, wife of accused Mayank Gupta, who resides at Jarnail Enclave, Zirakpur, had approached the police following which a case was registered against him. The woman alleged that she was married to Mayank, a resident of Delhi, a year and half ago but soon after their marriage, her husband started demanding dowry, for which he tortured her regularly. OC

Dera Bassi: The local police on Wednesday night registered a dowry harassment case against the husband of a woman. The accused has been identified as Manohar Lal, a resident of Shimla. Sonu, a resident of Dera Bassi, in her complaint to the police stated that she was married to Manohar Lal in 2013. She further stated that her parents had spent sufficient money on her marriage and still she was harassed by her in-laws for dowry. She alleged that they abused and assaulted her for not bringing enough dowry. The police said the woman complained that earlier the matter was solved amicably but she was again subjected to cruelty by her husband and in-laws. OC
17-yr-old girl ends her life
Panchkula: A 17-year-old girl, a resident of Sector 16 here, committed suicide on Thursday morning. According to the police, she was alone at home. She was a student of Class X. According to her uncle Pradeep Kumar, her father was outside when she committed suicide. He was the first one to see her hanging from a fan. ASI Balkaar Singh, in-charge of the Sector 16 police post, said the body was sent for a post-mortem. No suicide note has been recovered. TNS
Hit by car, youth dies
Lalru: A 25-year-old youth died in road accident after his motorbike was hit by a car on the Ambala-Chandigarh road near Gholumjara village, Dera Bassi, on Thursday morning. The deceased has been identified as Jatinder Singh, who hails from Haryana but was currently putting up at Bair Majra village near Lalru at his In-laws’ place. The incident took place at 8.30 am. He was going to his workplace at Dera Bassi. The accused fled from the spot. The victim had married a year and half ago. OC
