The Chandigarh Administration will allot land for the construction of affordable housing scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to the Chandigarh Housing Board(CHB) .
Sources said the Administration was contemplating to allot land for 10,000 houses at the initial stage to the CHB.
Due to the great response, the CHB has already taken up the demand for land with the Administration. The CHB will construct houses for the economically weaker section (EWS), lower income group (LIG) and middle income group (MIG) living in urban areas of Chandigarh for the credit linked subsidy and affordable flats under the scheme.
Sources in the Administration said the unutilised land under the rehabilitation scheme for slum dwellers might also be used for the affordable housing scheme. The remaining land is situated in Maloya, Dhanas and other areas. The CHB has already launched a demand survey for the affordable housing scheme, which has been receiving huge response from the residents.
To increase counters for applicants
In order to facilitate residents, the CHB has decided to open more counters for receiving the forms. Additional staff will also be deployed at the counters. Maninder Singh, Chairman of the board, informed that there would be separate facilitation counters to help applicants fill their application forms from Monday. Since the start of the demand survey for the EWS/LIG and MIG category of flats, more than 5,500 forms have been distributed among various categories of applicants and more than 2,000 forms have been received physically. Over 36,000 forms have been received online on the PMAY-MIS portal.
Pay fee through postal order, cash
Registration fees can be paid either through postal order or in cash at the time of receipt or deposit of application forms. Aadhaar card or voter card of the UT, Chandigarh, is necessary at the time of distribution or receipt of application forms.
