Vipul Atray (20), a final-year student of mechanical engineering at UIET, Panjab University, who resides in boys’ hostel number 6, reported to the police and the PU authorities about a peculiar incident, wherein white paint was thrown on his car and windows smashed.
The incident has brought the security in the varsity under scrutiny.
“I had parked my grey-coloured Ford EcoSport parked behind boys’ hostel number 4. Around 9 am, I found all the tyres were cut open, windshield smashed, front door window broken and paint over my car,” said Vipul, former joint secretary of the NSUI.
He said he first called Ashwani Kaul, PU’s Chief Security Officer, who sent security officers and asked him to dial-up the police. “However, I had already called head constable Nand Kishore at Sector 11 police station. I filed a DDR post noon.”
Vipul and his friends have been checking footage of CCTV cameras installed behind the boys’ hostel number 4. He said, “Even though I belong to the NSUI, I have no personal animosity with anyone. However, I have been actively protesting against the PU authorities.”
Prof Kaul said, “Vipul is not a controversial student. Cars parked on roadside behind the hostels aren’t registered. These vehicles are illegally parked. We have sent a DDR to the police and have requested them to find out the reason behind the incident. For the student elections, we are literally on our toes.”
