CHANDIGARH:Achievers’ Club beat United Club 3-1 to win the junior boys’ (U-18) title on the second day of the 30th Chandigarh State Table Tennis Championship for Gurmeet Singh Grewal Memorial Trophy here today.

Achievers’ Club beat United Club 3-1 to win the junior boys’ (U-18) title on the second day of the 30th Chandigarh State Table Tennis Championship for Gurmeet Singh Grewal Memorial Trophy here today.

Shaurya gave Achiever’s Club a head start with an 11-9 11-8 8-11 11-8 win over Sachit. Naman, then, overcame Pawan 11-9 9-11 11-9 11-9 to extend the lead, but United Club reduced the deficit when Sachit and Pawan combined to beat Naman and Karan 11-9 11-8 11-8 in the doubles tie. 

Shaurya, though, blanked Pawan 11-8 11-8 11-9 in the reverse singles tie to help the side to 3-1 win. 

The junior girls’ title went to Coaching Centre 23 after their blanked DAV Public School, Sector 8. Vasundhara humbled Deevanshi 11-8 9-11 11-7 11-8, while Vibhuti overcame Paavan 11-9 9-11 11-8 9-11 11-7 to make it 2-0 for Coaching Centre. Vasundhara and Vibhuti then paired together to beat Deevanshi and Paavan 11-8 9-11 11-7 11-8 to clinch the title. — TNS
