A 65-year-old widow was killed in a hit-and-run case on Tuesday. Fatima, a Palsora resident, was walking back home around 9 am after dropping her grandchildren to school in Sector 54. As she was crossing the road separating Sector 54 and 55, she was hit by a speeding car coming from the Mohali side. The vehicle sped away from the spot after the accident.

Fatima was taken to the Mohali Civil Hospital in Phase 6 in a private car. However, doctors there declared her dead. The SHO of the Sector 39 police station, Inspector Rajdeep Singh, said they had registered an FIR against unknown persons on a complaint of her family under Sections 279, 337 and 304-A of the IPC.

Fatima is survived by three sons and lived with one of her sons in Palsora. It was her daily routine to drop her three grandchildren to the government school in Sector 54. According to sources, they are suspecting the role of a Phase 7 resident in the case. The police also visited the house of the suspect but did not find anyone there.
