Chandigarh, March 19

The crime branch of the UT police arrested six persons, including two brothers, in separate cases and claimed to have solved five cases each of snatching and vehicle theft.

The police claimed that they had a tip-off that two brothers, who were involved in several cases of snatching and auto theft, were now behind a chain snatching in the city. Acting on the secret information, the cops laid a naka at the Sector 33/34/44/45 roundabout and nabbed the accused, identified as Naman Sehgal (24) and Shubham Sehgal (27), natives of Jalandhar.

Cops claimed that three cases of gold chain snatching and a case of scooter theft were solved with their arrest. Three gold chains and an Activa scooter have been recovered from them.

In another case, Vikram (23), alias Vicky, and Rohit (24), both residents of Mauli Jagran Complex, were arrested at the Sukhna Lake parking lot. Their arrest led to the recovery of two stolen Activa scooters, two motorcycles and a gold chain snatched by them in January this year.

The crime branch sleuths also arrested two youths for snatching a mobile phone from a 27-year-old girl at the Industrial Area, Phase I.

The accused, Manowar Gul (19) of Burail village and Jugnu Singh (20) of Mohali, had targeted the victim on March 15. The youths, who were arrested on Sunday, were riding an auto at the time of the incident.
