2 held for attacking NSUI leader on varsity campus

CHANDIGARH:The Chandigarh Police have arrested 2 National Students Union of India (NSUI) members for attacking an NSUI leader on the Panjab University (PU) campus.

The Chandigarh Police have arrested 2 National Students Union of India (NSUI) members for attacking an NSUI leader on the Panjab University (PU) campus.

Two factions of the NSUI had clashed on the PU campus on November 15 after the musical night of Sippy Gill on the conclusion of the ‘Aaghaz’ programme.

According to the police, the complainant in the case, Pargat Singh, a resident of Sector 50, had alleged that Gurjot Sandhu, Yadwinder Singh, alias Ricky, along with others, had attacked the complainant with a sharp weapon near the parking of the Botany Department of the university. The complainant had received injuries and was hospitalised.

A case under Sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC was registered.

Later, the accused, Gurjot Singh, a native of Fazilka district, and Ricky, a native of Muktsar district, were arrested.
