Bathinda, March 24

To educate and sensitise the farmers to the ill-effects of stubble burning, the Deputy Commissioner, Diprava Lakra, flagged off an environmental awareness van in the presence of various officials here today.

The van will be operated by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB).

Under the state-wide campaign against stubble burning, the PPCB will operate two vans in every district during the ongoing wheat harvesting season.

The vans will spread awareness among farmers with the help of a specially designed audio package, which is based on Gurbani and Punjabi folk idioms.

These vans will reach every nook and corner of the state, including fields, to deliver the message directly to the farmers who are indulging in the practice of stubble burning.

Surjit Singh Dhaliwal, environmental engineer, along with his staff, was also present during the flagging off ceremony.
