Bathinda, March 25

The one-week free dental check-up camp organised by Max Super Speciality Hospital, Bathinda, on the occasion of World Oral Health Day concluded here today.

During the camp, a number of patients were checked. They were made aware of oral hygiene.

Dr Neha Kansal, an endodontist, said, “Oral hygiene is essential for good health especially for women. The research has revealed that the gum disease leads to health problems that affects women. It is because of hormonal changes throughout the woman’s life. So women need to be thoroughly brushing and flossing every day to prevent the gum disease.”

She said the gum disease was often a silent disease and many women did not notice they were suffering from it until it reached an advanced state.

Dr Kansal said during pregnancy, women need to take care of oral health. She told the visitors that the best time for treatment was between the 14th and 20th week, as in the last months, the patient might be uncomfortable in sitting in a dental chair.

Dr Kansal added that it was important for women to practice oral hygiene habits, which include brushing at least twice a day. Further, professional dental cleanings are important particularly before, during and after pregnancy, she added.
