City residents are irked over the leakage of water pipes in various parts of the city.

Pipes supplying water have been leaking near the Rose Garden chowk and Ambedkar chowk due to which the number of potholes is arising and posing a threat to the commuters.

Residents alleged that in various parts of the city, citizens are facing an acute shortage of water. They are purchasing water to fulfill their basic needs. On the other hand, due to the negligence of the authorities concerned, leakage in water pipe occurs. Because of this, thousands of litres of water is getting wasted each day during the supply hours.

A number of commuters said during the water supply hours, the road gets accumulated with stagnant water and slush which poses a serious threat to two-wheeler riders.

Khushwant Singh, a commuter, said, “The authorities concerned have to conduct a survey and identify the location where the leakage is taking place so that the issue gets resolved.”

Preet Puri, a shopkeeper, said, “It seems the authorities concerned do not bother about the problems that people face. They also roam around in the city, knowing well about the water pipe leakage. But they haven’t taken any concrete steps to resolve the matter yet.”

“Though we have brought the problem to the notice of the Municipal Corporation many times, but to no avail,” said XEN, Water Supply and Sanitation, Surender Ranga. “I am not aware of the problem related to water pipe leakage at the Rose Garden Chowk and Ambedkar Chowk. The problem has now come to my notice and we will resolve this at the earliest.”

Mayor Balwant Rai Nath said, “The problem of water pipe leakage in various part of the city is in my notice and soon all the problems would be resolved.”
