Harminder Singh, a 35-year-old farmer from Jandawala village of Goniana block in the district died last night at a private hospital.
He was admitted to the hospital on Monday after he consumed poison following debt burden and failure of his vegetable crop, allegedly due to spurious seeds.
According to information, Harminder Singh and his brother used to cultivate vegetables. However, for the last two years, he had been facing losses.
Investigating officer Darshan Singh said, “The deceased farmer was admitted to Sukhmani Nursing Home, Goniana. He died last night. This year, his crop did not nurture. Around 12 acres is in the name his father, which the brothers used to cultivate. Balwinder Singh, brother of the deceased, had lodged a complaint with the police. A case under Section 174 of the CrPC has been registered at the Nehinanwala police station.”
