Bathinda, May 23

A family of Katar Singh Wala village has raised allegation against an official of the Kotshamir police post for keeping their minor girl and her parents in illegal custody at night.

The family members on Wednesday lodged a complaint with SSP Naveen Singla demanding action against ASI Manjit Singh.

They have also written a letter to the DGP and Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Shamshad Ali, a resident of Katar Singh Wala village, said their Muktsar-based relative Gulab Khan lured and took away his 14-year-old daughter on May 17.

He immediately lodged a complaint against his relative at the Bathinda Sadar police station. Kotshamir police post in-charge ASI Manjit Singh started a probe in this matter.

He said on May 20, when he told ASI Manjit Singh that his daughter was in Muktsar, the police officials asked him to go along with him and also pay for fuel of his private car.

Ali said he took Rs 1,000 from his friend to pay for the fuel and they also took another car on rent for Rs 2,500 to go to Muktsar.

The police nabbed the accused and also found his daughter. However, later the ASI allowed the accused to flee from the spot, he added.

On the way back, the ASI told him to buy liquor for him, Ali alleged.

When they reached Bathinda, the ASI made them wait at the Bathinda Sadar police station for the whole night, Shamshad Ali said.

It is learnt that the SSP has assured the family that a probe would be conducted into the allegations raised by them.

ASI Manjit Singh has refuted the allegation claiming that he did not go to Muktsar for the raid with the family.
