Association protests against ‘anti-people’ banking reforms

On the occasion of the 48th anniversary of bank nationalisation in India, bankers observed July 19 as ‘Save Public Sector Banks Day’.

DGS of the State Bank of India Staff Association (SBISA), Gulshan Oberio, said on the call of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) all bank employees and officers today held a demonstration at the zonal office building on Amrik Singh Road to voice their demand.

Lajpat Rai Goyal of the State Bank of India Officers’ Association (SBIOA) said, “We are fighting against the anti-people banking reforms. The demonstration is against the plan of merger of banks.”

AGS Paramjit Singh said the merger of banks was against the public.

Secretary of the Punjab Bank Employees Federation, Pawan Jindal, said the government should take action against wilful defaulters.

Regional secretary Rakesh Jain said corporate bad loans should be recovered.

Gulshan Oberio said the bankers would go on strike in future to save the public sector banks.
