725 drug peddlers held in four months

BATHINDA: The Bathinda police have arrested 725 persons under different Sections of the Excise and NDPS Act in the past four months.

The Bathinda police have arrested 725 persons under different Sections of the Excise and NDPS Act in the past four months.

As per the reports submitted to the state headquarters, 245 cases have been registered under the NDPS Act and 299 persons have been arrested from March 16 till date.

As many as 438 cases had been registered under the Excise Act and the police recovered 104 vehicles from the accused.

The police seized 1.528 kg of heroin, 808 kg of poppy husk and 9.450 kg of opium in the past four months.

The poppy husk and opium were smuggled from Rajasthan and the accused had already accepted their involvement in the crime. The heroin was smuggled from Delhi.

The police have arrested two Nigerians, who were involved in the smuggling of heroin, in Bathinda.

The police have seized 1,94,996 intoxicant pills, 6.193 kg of ‘sulfa’, 2,391 bottles of intoxicant syrup, 825 gm of intoxicant powder and 52 gm of smack.

The police registered 438 cases under the Excise Act and 23,893 litres of licit liquor and 4,024 litres of lahan had been seized from 499 persons.

SSP Naveen Singla said, “We have broken the first supply chain of drug peddlers. Heavy recovery of heroin, opium, poppy husk and intoxicant pills has been made. We have started a process for the arrest of big fish involved in drugs.”

“As many as 500 drug peddlers have been arrested and our motive is to stop peddling,” he added.
