A day after a student, Akashdeep Singh, of Sant Singh Sukha Singh Senior Secondary School was attacked, the police today nabbed two suspects. Raids are on to nab the other two, the police said.

Those arrested have been identified as Mandeep Singh, alias Shavi Arora, and Karandeep Singh, alias Simar, said Avtar Singh, SHO, Majitha road police station, who is also the investigating officer in the case.

The police had booked around 10 persons late last evening. Among them, the prime suspects are Gursimran Singh and Manjot Singh. A case under Sections 452, 323, 295, 355 and 506 of the IPC has been registered at the Civil Lines police station.

The victim, Akashdeep Singh, is a Class XII student of SSSS Senior Secondary School. The incident came to light when the accused shared a video on a social networking site claiming the responsibility for the attack. The accused also named two more students who were their “target”. Thereafter, a CCTV footage of the incident went viral in which the accused were seen thrashing Akashdeep Singh with a stick.

Akashdeep, a student of the non-medical stream, was having lunch at the school canteen when the accused turned up and attacked him all of a sudden. They pulled out Akash in the open and beat up mercilessly with a wooden stick. His arm was fractured and he also sustained severe injuries on other parts of his body. The accused were outsiders and were expelled from SSSS Modern High School for indiscipline.

Avtar Singh said, during preliminary probe it came to light that Karandeep informed the attackers about the whereabouts of Akashdeep. He said the accused were anguished over a minor issue that the victim had informed their family members that they used to bunk classes. The remaining two accused were absconding from their house and they would be arrested soon, the SHO added.
