Snatchers target devotee, tourist in separate incidents

AMRITSAR: There seems to be no end to snatchings and robberies even as the city police is carrying out search operations and putting up nakas (barricades) to nail criminal elements and drug traffickers.

There seems to be no end to snatchings and robberies even as the city police is carrying out search operations and putting up nakas (barricades) to nail criminal elements and drug traffickers. Three snatchings incidents were reported in the past 24-hours while two snatchers were arrested on a tip off.

The snatchers targeted a tourist and a devotee, who along with their family members, had come to pay obeisance at Golden Temple. So far, there is no breakthrough in these cases.

In his complaint Kapoor Singh, a resident of Jammu, stated that at 11.30 pm he along with his wife was returning to bus stand on rickshaw after paying obeisance at Darbar Sahib, when two youth with covered faces intercepted them and snatched his wife’s purse. Her purse contained Rs 15,000, keys and other valuables. The Ram Bagh police has registered a case under Section 379-B of the IPC in this connection.

In another incident, Narinder Kumar of Gujarat had come to pay obeisance at Golden Temple. When he was going towards railway station on a rickshaw at around 4.40 am, the accused intercepted him near Gol Bagh and forcibly took out his wallet containting Rs 13,000 in cash.

In third incident two young car-borne persons snatched a mobile phone from Nikhla Mehra, a resident of the Ranjit Avenue area. Nikhla said he was going home on foot when two youth alighted from a white colour Swift car, caught him from behind and snatched his cell phone. A case under Sections 379-B and 34 of the IPC has been registered in this regard.
