The trial of newly built washing apron on platform No. 2 of the Amritsar railway station will be held after its curing. Recommencement of operations at the platform is being eagerly awaited by passengers, vendors and railway staff as it will lead to resumption of the train movement.
Stalled and diverted trains will resume service from here after the civil work on the platform is finished. Officials of the engineering wing of Railways, which is carrying out the civil work, said the date of its trial would be decided after the completion of its curing.
They said after conducting trial, the operation wing of Railways would take decision to start plying of trains from the platform, which would happen immediately thereafter.
Passengers, vendors and visitors at the railway station are perturbed with more trains being cancelled following the start of renovation at platform No. 2. Already, many trains have been cancelled and diverted after fog intensified in the northern part of the country.
A vendor, on anonymity, said retail sale had nosedived at platforms after the number of visitors’ dwindled following cancellation and diversion of trains. He rued, “What is the use of depositing lakhs of rupees in rent, bearing expenses of employees, power bills and other overhead costs when Railways simply stops plying trains to resolve all other problems.”
To facilitate uninterrupted civil work, Railways stopped halts of both up and down Tata Moori, which connects Raurkela to Jammu Tawi, up and down Jammu-Bathinda Express, besides diverting other trains.
