Two unidentified miscreants struck at a bank in Mudhal village and decamped with the gun of a security guard on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Cooperative Bank is located in the Focal Point area of the village and there was no guard to keep vigil at night. The accused tried hard but failed to break the safe of the bank. In his complaint, Manohar Singh, manager of Cooperative Bank, stated that on the morning of February 21, as a routine, he along with his staff members reached the bank where they saw that the wall of the bank from the south side was broken. When the staff entered the bank, they found that things were lying scattered.

Manohar Singh stated that the accused had entered the bank around 1:30 am and tried to break up the safe but could not. Further, the bank did not have much cash that time. After trying hard, the accused left the bank. While returning, they took away the double-barrel gun of security guard, Sukhdev Singh of Majitha.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Jagbir Singh, investigating officer from the police post Verka, said, “The accused were aware that there is no security guard at the bank during night. They broke the wall of the bank with sharp-edged weapons and entered the bank. The CCTV footage revealed that they were inside the bank for more than an hour. They tried to break the safe but failed. The security guard of the bank used to keep his gun inside the bank. They took away the gun”.

The police has registered a case under Sections 380/457/511 of the Indian Penal Code.

Jagbir Singh claimed that they have been investigating the matter and have launched a manhunt to arrest the accused.
