Family duped of Rs15.5 lakh

AMRITSAR: A couple duped a local resident allegedly of Rs 15.5 lakh on the pretext of getting him a family visa for shifting to foreign shores. Those booked were identified as Davinder Khanna and Veena Khanna of Sudarshan Nagar.

A couple duped a local resident allegedly of Rs 15.5 lakh on the pretext of getting him a family visa for shifting to foreign shores. Those booked were identified as Davinder Khanna and Veena Khanna of Sudarshan Nagar.

Complainant Naveen Kumar alleged that the accused demanded Rs 20.5 lakh and he transferred the same to his account. He said when the couple failed to provide family visa, Davinder returned Rs 5 lakh after one week and promised to return the remaining amount soon. However, the couple shifted to some unknown place and also took away their passports.

The police have registered a case under Sections 420, 120-B of the IPC and 13 of Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act. The police said further investigation was under way and efforts were on to trace them.
