Amritsar, August 12

As per the call given by the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union (PCCTU), the local unit of DAV College staged a protest here today. Unit secretary Prof Gurdas Singh Sekhon, while addressing the rally, criticised the Central Government for delay in the implementation of the seventh pay commission for teachers of colleges and universities.

He said, “The PCCTU will also hold a state-level rally on August 22 in Chandigarh. Teachers from the aided colleges will participate in this rally after taking mass casual leave.” Prof RK Jha, president of the local unit of the union, flayed the state government for its “anti-education” policy. The union is demanding pension and appointment of regular teachers.

The rally was also addressed by Malkiat Singh Mudhal, district president, and BB Yadav, state executive member. They said the state government should regularise the grant for the aided colleges pending since March.
