Amritsar, January 15

Two burglars, who had escaped from the lock-up of the Gate Hakima police station yesterday, were arrested within 24 hours of the incident.

They were identified as Jahangir Sheikh of Fateh Singh Colony, and Sumit, alias Chuha, of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Colony.

Dr Mehtab Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), said the duo was arrested by the police in a theft case. They were on three-day police remand for further investigation. Yesterday morning, the suspects managed to slip away from the police lock up.

Immediately, police teams conducted raids at various places of their possible hideouts and arrested them, the ADCP said. A case under Sections 223 and 224 of the IPC was registered in this connection against the suspects.
