Chinese national booked
: The Kotwali police have booked a Chinese national, Thaminder Anand, for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community. The SGPC had lodged a complaint with the city police against the accused for allegedly publishing Guru Granth Sahib in an illegal manner. SGPC secretary Manjit Singh said the accused claimed to supply the holy book by air or sea route on a website.

Event on self-employment:
A three-day workshop on Regional Self-Employment Training Institutions (RSETIs) concluded at Vikas Bhawan in Mohali. It was organised by the National Academy of RUDSET. Leading bank managers, directors of RSETIs and officials of the state government participated in the event. They discussed ways to improve the RSETIs and help the rural poor and unemployed youth in starting their ventures after they get training from these institutes.

Girl kidnapped, 2 booked
:
The police have booked two persons for allegedly kidnapping a 14-year-old school girl from a village in Baghapurana sub-division of the district on Friday. The accused, Sukhdev Singh and Gurbhej Singh of Dhudi village in Faridkot, are yet to be arrested.

YAD holds road show:
Newly appointed Youth Akali Dal (Malwa Zone-2) president Harpal Juneja on Saturday held a road show in Patiala to begin his activities in the region. The SAD has carved out this new zone comprising five districts, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Sangrur and Barnala. A large number of youth participated in the rally that began from Polo Ground, Patiala.

2 youths killed in mishap:
Two youths were killed on Saturday in a road accident near Bhoorewala village on the Naraingarh-Chandigarh road. They were identified as Deepak (20) and Manish (21) of Naraingarh. They were on way to Chandigarh on a motorcycle when a vehicle hit their vehicle. They died on the spot.

FM to head purchase panel:
The Haryana Government has constituted a high powered purchase committee under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Abhimanyu. A spokesperson said all store purchases valued above Rs 30 lakh of the departments would be decided by the committee.

Cases settled at lok adalat:
As many as 143 cases were disposed of in a special lok adalat at the District Court Complex on Saturday. CJM Sumit Garag said 10 cases under the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal were settled in which compensation of Rs 59.87 lakh was awarded.

Students get laptops, cycles:
State Social Welfare Minister Kavita Jain on Saturday distributed mini laptops, cycles, ceiling fans, table fans and study material among 320 students of Sonepat town at a prize distribution programme. It was jointly organised by the Gramin Pratibha Vikas Samiti and the Sahil Viklang Sahayatarth Samiti and it was the ninth annual programme of the samitis.

Husband booked for murder:
Six members of a family members have been booked for murdering Swati Bansal of Machhrauli in Yamunanagar on Friday night. Swati’s husband Mahipal, father-in-law Ramesh and four others have been booked.

Kangra
Man dies of poisoning:
A 47-year-old man of Sohal village falling under Jawalamukhi police station died at the DRPGMC, Tanda, here on Saturday following consumption of poison at his home on Friday night, the police said. Satish Kumar consumed some poison and was rushed by his family to Nadaun hospital where doctors referred him to the Tanda medical college. According to his family members Satish was under depression. The police has started investigation under Section 174 CrPC. 

Poison case registered:Shilpa (16) of Thana Bargran village was admitted to the DRPGMC at Tanda as a poison case. Her family members said she was indisposed and had consumed some poison by mistake. She was under treatment.

Eye-testing camp for drivers:
The district police organised a free eye-testing camp for drivers at Bajaura, 12 km from here, on Saturday. The police said specialists from the Rotary Eye Hospital, Ruaru, examined over 403 persons and free medical aids and medicines were also disbursed. DSP Sanjay Sharma apprised the drivers about the importance of road-safety and urged commuters to obey the traffic rules. He said Rs 45,000 had been earmarked for conducting activities aimed at spreading awareness regarding road safety. SP Surinder Verma said such eye-testing camps would be organised in seven police stations of this district. 

Sundernagar
Two arrested with charas:
The police parties from BSL Colony, Sundernagar, on Saturday arrested two persons and recovered 140 gm charas from these persons in two different incidents. DSP Kulbhushan Verma said the police laid two different nakas with the help of the District Detection Squad on the Sundernagar-Karsog road and recovered 60 gm of charas from Kuldeep Singh of Aukal village and 80 gm from Bheem Singh of Ghiri village, respectively. The police has registered cases under Section 20, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and arrested both the accused.

Women safety measures:
Keeping in mind increasing crime against women in the district, Champawat police in coordination with the local taxi union has decided that no woman will be allowed to sit by the driver side while travelling. “We have requested every taxi driver to instal an iron grill near his seat and that does not allow women passengers to sit there during the travel. We have also instructed the drivers not to carry passengers more than the capacity of the vehicle and keep away from liquor during the travel,” said Anurag Singh, a police officer of Champawat district.

Didihat
BJP dharna:
BJP activists continued their dharna to demand the district status for Didihat. They alleged that due to political rivalry, the state government had stopped construction of approved roads in the subdivision. “The state government is making fake announcements as no doctor has joined the community health centre in the Assembly constituency represented by the BJP,” said Lokesh Bhar, district general secretary of the BJP.

Boys missing:
Relatives have lodged a complaint with the local police after two 10th standard students were found missing from their respective homes of their village in Pithoragarh district from November 16. “ The youths, 15-year-old Deepak Singh and 14-year-old Gurab Singh, residents of Charsul village in Pithoragarh district, are missing have been since November 16,’’ said Kalyan Singh Rutela, father of one of the youths, Deepak Singh, who is working with eco task force at Ranikhet.

Tanakpur
Uttarayani fair:
The two-day Uttarayani fair will begin at the Gandhi Maidan ground in Tanakpur on January 15. Preparations for the fair have already started, said Harela Club spokesperson Shivraj Chand. “We have decided to stage a cultural procession depicting Cholia dance and other cultural dances on the first day. Cultural troupes from various schools will take part,” he said.
