Tribune News Service

New Delhi, November 29
Two motorcycle-borne men shot dead a security guard of a private company’s cash van and took away Rs 1.5 crore at the crowded Kamla Nagar market near Delhi University North Campus today.

The guard has been identified as Satinder Singh. He succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

Around 11 am, the cash van arrived at the Kamla Nagar market. The driver parked the vehicle near a food joint. Apart from the driver, there were three men in the van, including two officials of the company and a guard. The officials went inside a Citibank ATM kiosk adjacent to the food joint to refill cash. The driver was sitting inside the van, while the guard stood outside.

Two men wearing helmets and driving a black Bajaj Pulsar bike, came near the van and one of the riders opened fire at the guard. The other robber went inside the kiosk and took a suitcase which was filled with cash before fleeing the spot. Eyewitnesses said the robbers fired a few rounds in the air to intimidate people.

“Satinder was rushed to Sushruta Trauma Centre with critical injuries on his forehead and neck. He later died at the hospitals,” said a police officer. Bank officials told the police that the stolen suitcase contained around Rs 1.5 crore cash. The police are examining the CCTV footage of the scene for leads.
