MC starts fogging to fight dengue
Jalandhar, November 29 While in April, two Jalandhar dengue patients had also been reported at Ludhaina, later in the year, the Lamba Pind area had suffered an outbreak. Experts said the large number of patients being reported with low platelet counts at various localities in the district certainly revealed lack of arrangements made by the health authorities. “While November is primarily perceived as a month when problems pertaining to outbreaks begin to subside, the consistent reportage of patients with low platelets, fever as well as indigestion hints at both bad water in the district and improper disease prevention efforts by the health authorities.” Meanwhile, teams of the health authorities remained conspicuous by their absence at the Kot Ramdas locality today. Notably, two dengue deaths have taken place in the area this month and at least 10 cases of people suffering from typhoid have also surfaced in the area, with a couple of patients also having been admitted at the local Civil Hospital. A bothersome aspect of the entire scenario is that a number of cases reported in private hospitals are not being taken into consideration by the health authorities. The Health Department has time and again also complained that many private hospitals do not report to them regarding dengue, malaria, jaundice, typhoid etc. patients reported with them. Sources claim that many of these are deliberately being skipped by the department concerned because it makes the district health situation appear much more controlled than it actually is. ECHS empanelled hospitals seek revision of rates
Jalandhar, November 29 The ECHS hospital from Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur have written to the PM and senior Defence authorities for the revision of rates. “Mostly defence personnel seek treatment for complete denture and fixed prosthesis. The market price for complete denture is Rs 20,000 and for fixed prosthesis between Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000, but the rates of the ECHS are Rs 1,900 for complete denture and Rs 500 per tooth for fixed prosthesis,” Dr Amiteshwar from Jalandhar and Dr Vibha Gupta from Hoshiarpur stated. The ECHS rate list has not been revised for many years. Keeping in the view the rising inflation, it is difficult to serve the patients in present rates. The Defence authorities should revise the rates for the ECHS empanelled hospitals of Punjab at par with Bombay hospitals. “The rates for giving upper and lower complete denture is just Rs 1,900, whereas in Bombay it is Rs 13,000. Same Defence personnel are in Punjab as well in Bombay, then why rates are different?” Dr Amiteshwar quipped. The rates are even high in other places like Pune, Hyderabad, Gujrat, Chennai etc. Dentists alleged that the rates of electricity had been rising and so their bills. Even the salaries of government doctors had been revised, but the ECHS rate list for dental procedures had not been revised. “We were empanelled in June 2013 and have treated around 500 ex-servicemen, but we are earning nothing out of it. Further, there is a lot of paper formality for claiming bills. Now, it is also made mandatory to click the photograph of the patient and attach with the bills,” the doctor further alleged. Due to the low rates, the ECHS polyclinics were forced to extend low-quality treatment to ex-servicmen, they said. Many a time, ex-servicemen have complained to us that the dental treatment being extended to them was of poor quality and this was happening due to the low rates only, said the doctor. |
Society head alleges bias in removal of hoardings
Jalandhar, November 29 Talking to the press here today, Walia said his organisation had put up boards at four places in the city. These boards had been put up to congratulate the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Vijay Sampla. He said he had taken legal permission from the Municipal Corporation Jalandhar for putting up the boards and the requisite fee of the MC had also been paid for the purpose. He said the requisite receipts for the boards were also received by him. “Even though we took permission for putting up the boards for two weeks, our boards were taken down before the said time. After depositing the fee, we had the boards of my organisation put up, but on the morning of November 28, we saw that the boards put by our society had been taken down. When we enquired regarding this at the MC office, employees told us that the boards had been removed at the instructions of the Mayor, Walia alleged. He alleged that even before this, whenever his firm had put up boards even at private places, they had been taken off. He alleged that even though at many of these places, the boards put by other organisations and firms were allowed to stay, his were being taken down. Walia said the taking down of the boards had had cost him a loss of Rs 2 lakh so far. Walia also alleged that despite complaints to the MC officials regarding the uprooting of his boards, no action was taken. Mayor Sunil Jyoti termed Walia’s allegations as baseless. “A law has been made for illegal hoardings. Wherever illegal hoardings shall be put up, we will initiate action. The Tehbazari Department has marked 16 sites in the city where boards can be put up. From all the other places, they have to taken down. If the boards had been put up at a legal site, they would not have been uprooted. The allegations are baseless,” Mayor Sunil Jyoti said. The Mayor also said that Walia hadn’t been singled out and all hoardings from illegal paces were being uprooted. |

KLF chief’s remand extended
Jalandhar, November 29 Sources said the police have been extending his remand to bust his network in Punjab. The police suspected that accused might have established his network in Punjab to orchestrate terror strikes. Moreover, the police also suspected that accused had activated his sleeper cells in various cities across the state and was planning to use those to further his terror activities. Senior police officials of the rural police have been interrogating him. However, the police officials are tight lipped about the interrogation part, but sources said the police have gotten some vital information about Mintoo's network during interrogation. Notably, after the Jalandhar police busted a pro-Khalistan terror module in August 4, 2013 in which they had arrested militants of KLF namely Harpreet Singh, alias Harmeet, alias Pintu, Karanjit Singh, alias Pamma, and Sarwan Singh Shabba from Jammu, they had then told the police during the interrogation that KLF chief Mintoo had deployed them to activate sleepers cells in Punjab. They had then confessed that series of meetings were held in Punjab mainly at Gurdaspur and Dalli village, native village of Mintoo near Jalandhar and they were planning strike at Anandpur Sahib on August 15. Notably, Mintoo was also admitted during the interrogation that he took part in a camp organised by the ISI agents for bomb making techniques in Thailand. |
Teachers wear black badges, demand regularisation
Tribune News Service
Jalandhar, November 29 Demanding regularisation, the SSA/RMSA teachers have been holding the black badge protests for almost an entire week now in favour of their long pending demands. Union president Mohammed Daud Alam had recently warned the government that if it did not pay heed to their demands then the protest would be intensified. However, as per their plan, from November 30 to December 7, teachers would also burn effigies of the governments during the second level of their protests. The 14,000-teacher-strong union had warned that they would hold state-level rallies if the government did not respond after the first phase of their protests. Union activists said despite the state policy of regularising teachers after every three years, the teachers of the union were not being regularised even after six years. The teachers of the union have been working in the state for the past six years. Union activists said even though it had been agreed upon, in a meeting with them on March 2, by the state CM that a committee regarding regularisation policy will be constituted; despite their taking up the issue with education ministers and DGSE many times, the committee had still not been constituted. |
