Sisodia, Birla in AAP's second list of candidates
New Delhi, November 29 AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal's name is to be announced at the end after all candidates propose his name as party's chief minister candidate. Sisodia will contest from Patparganj and Birla has been fielded from Mangolpuri, seats represented by the two former ministers in their earlier stint as legislators. The AAP has also given ticket to Gopal Rai, senior party leader, from Baburpur. Interestingly, the party had decided to change some of its candidates that came third in the last assembly elections, but Rai, who came third, has been given the ticket. However, the party dropped Veena Anand, who represented the Patel Nagar seat, and has nominated Hazari Lal Chauhan in her place. The party has re-nominated Madan Lal, Dinesh Mohania and Prakash Jarwal, former legislators from Kasturba Nagar, Sangam Vihar and Deoli, respectively. Raju Dhingan, with whom the party was unhappy over his ineffective handling of the riots, has also been given ticket from the Trilokpuri seat. It has changed candidates in six constituencies, giving chance to new faces. From Ballimaran, it has fielded Imran Hussain, while from Matia Mahal it has nominated Asim Ahmed Khan as the party candidate. The party has also changed its candidate from Rithala and has given ticket to Mahindra Goel. With this list, the total number of candidates declared by the party has gone up to 35 in the 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly. Ram Niwas Goel and Raghuvendra Shaukeen are party candidates from Shahdra and Nagloi Jat, respectively. The party had come third and (fourth in case of Ballimaran) in these constituencies in the last assembly elections and has decided to field new faces. In the first list of 22 candidates, announced on November 13, the party announced ticket to 12 of its former legislators, which included four former ministers of the 49-day AAP government. |
AAP launches party's rural wing
New Delhi, November 29 He also promised to have a 'gram needhi' a village-level fund, on the lines of MP, MLA and councillor funds. He said the village will decide on how to use the money. Launching an attack on opposition parties, Kejriwal said the Congress was not aware that rural areas existed in Delhi while the BJP only used these areas as vote-bank and turned its back after elections got over. He said the BJP's policy was anti-farmer in nature as it wanted to make amendments to the Land Acquisition Act and grab land from farmers and give to builders for constructing buildings. "There are 350 villages in Delhi, of which 150 have been urbanised, but the remaining 200 are still rural in nature. I want to make model villages," Kejriwal said. Rural areas and outer Delhi have been some of the parts where the AAP did not get response as it was expecting. After the Lok Sabha debacle, the party also launched a drive to connect with rural masses. Under this programme, Kejriwal visited several villages to strengthen the party in these areas. Touching upon several issues, the former Delhi Chief Minister promised educational institutions and building of sports infrastructure in the rural areas. "People here often complain that their children have to travel long distance to attend colleges. After my government comes to power, we will build colleges in these rural. The villages have promised to provide land and we will buy them but them at a market price. "We also intend to build stadia and sports infrastructure so that these villages can produce sportsmen who can make Delhi and country proud," he said. The former Chief Minister also promised better connectivity to villages with more bus and Metro facilities. Highlighting the issues of farmers in the national Capital, he promised equal treatment, in terms of subsidy and other benefits, as farmers in other states receive. The party proposed to provide alternate land to farmers as the first option and in case land is not available, then all bottlenecks will be removed to ensure adequate compensation to farmers whose lands are acquired for developmental works by the government and private parties. Kejriwal also promised to remove all sections from the Delhi Land Reforms Act which provide for punishment to farmers, since penal provisions to deal with farmers is a "highly retrograde step". Hari Ram Khatri will be the president of the Delhi unit of AAP Gramin Morcha and Siddharth Malik will be its general secretary. — PTI |

Raj, who is also the national chairmanship of the confederation, said he is hopeful of the new government and they should be given more time. "Dalits and Tribes are very hopeful from the new government that they will get opportunity to participate in all walks of life. But since no developments can happen in miraculously overnight, they need to be given time but at the same time it is important to let them know of the issues and demands," the Dalit leader said. The confederation, which came into existence in 1997, has been raising demands for the dignity and rights of the Dalits. This would be the 17 rally of the organisation which is scheduled to be held at Ramlila Maidan. Raj also clarified that the motive of the rally is not a dharna aimed at gaining "political mileage".
