Minor’s rape rocks Uttarakhand Assembly
Tribune News Service

Dehradun, November 26
The Uttarakhand Assembly proceedings were today stalled several times after the Opposition BJP demanded an urgent debate on the recent rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in Haldwani.

The murder also echoed through the entire Kumaon region where the girl’s family with thousands of people staged a dharna and refused to perform the last rites till the accused were nabbed.

All shops, educational institutions and business establishments also remained closed.

The Nainital High Court also took cognisance of the case in a PIL filed by three lawyers. Acting Chief Justice VK Bisht and Justice UC Dhyani directed the state police to daily inform the court about the progress of the case.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Harish Rawat announced a relief of Rs 10 lakh to the girl’s family and instructed Director General of Police BS Sidhu to solve the case on priority.
