BSF man opens fire outside Omar’s house
Tribune News Service

Srinagar, November 17
A BSF man opened fire from his service rifle outside Chief Minister Omar Abdulah’s residence causing panic in the high-security Gupkar area of Srinagar today.

No one was injured in the incident. Omar was away on a campaign tour for the upcoming Assembly elections. The security man was overpowered and disarmed soon after the incident. The BSF authorities have ordered an internal inquiry. Omar, who had left on a tour of the Ladakh region yesterday, later reposed faith in his security team. “Notwithstanding today’s incident with the BSF jawan stationed at my residence in Srinagar today, I have full confidence in my security team,” (sic) he tweeted. The BSF authorities said the incident occurred at 7 am when one of their men, constable Keshto Ghosh, fired at least 10 rounds into the air from his service rifle. “We have ordered an inquiry and taken the constable into custody. Reports indicate he was fiddling with his weapon and the fire went off accidentally,” an officer said. (With PTI inputs)
