New Delhi, November 14
The Supreme Court today said top cricket administrator N Srinivasan, his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan, Rajasthan Royal’s co-owner Raj Kundra and IPL chief operating officer Sundar Raman were among those named in the report of the Justice Mukul Mudgal panel appointed by it to probe the allegations that IPL’s T20 matches had been marred by betting and fixing in 2013.

A Bench comprising Justice TS Thakur and FMI Kalifulla said certain findings in the probe report could be taken as “indictment” of some and “misdemeanour” on the part of certain other individuals, but “we don’t know whether these things could be held against them” at this stage. The court did not identify those indicted or found to be involved in misdeeds.

All the names disclosed by the SC today figure in the "conclusions" part of the probe report.

The details of the report are expected to become public tomorrow when the SC would give copies of it to the BCCI, Srinivasan, Meiyappan, Kundra and Raman after deleting the names of the players. The bench said it did not want to disclose the names of the players at this juncture. Appearing for the BCCI, senior advocate Aryaman Sundaram pleaded with the bench to restrain media from reporting the names of players. At this, the bench said, "We can’t tame media. We can only hope that they will behave in a responsible manner." It, however, did not pass any order in this regard.

The bench clarified that “we will not be able to say anything” on the findings as of now. The court asked its administration wing to supply copies of the report to those named in the report and Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB), at whose instance the SC ordered the probe. The Bench asked the BCCI and others to file their response within four days.

The BCCI pleaded with the SC for deferring its annual general meeting (AGM), scheduled for November 20 for holding elections to the post of president and other office bearers, pending a decision on the findings of the probe report. “The AGM shall be postponed by four weeks,” the bench said in the order. The SC slated the next hearing for November 24.

Srinivasan had stepped aside as the BCCI president after the probe panel’s initial report raising doubts about his integrity. Following this, the SC had appointed Sunil Gavaskar and Shivlal Yadav as acting joint chiefs of the board, asking Gavaskar to deal with IPL and Yadav to take care of other dealings of the BCCI. The court nevertheless allowed Srinivasan to take over as ICC chairman.

Meanwhile, a Delhi court today fixed December 8 for commencement of arguments on framing of charges in 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal case in which suspended cricketers S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and others, including don Dawood Ibrahim, have been chargesheeted.
