Burdwan blast prime accused arrested

Kolkata, November 8
The West Bengal police today arrested Sajid, alias Sheikh Rahmatullah, the prime accused in the Burdwan blast case. He is stated to be a chief commander of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terror group.

Sajid was arrested by a team of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate this afternoon from the airport area of North 24-Parganas district.

"Today we arrested Sheikh Rahamatullah. He is a Bangladesh national. After interrogation, he identified himself as Sajid, who is involved in the Burdwan blast case and is the chief of the Burdwan module," said Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar. "Sajid, alias Sheikh Rahmatullah, is a member of the JMB and Majlis-e-Sura, which is the central committee of Jamaat," Kumar said. Sajid was arrested when he came to collect money during a trap laid by the police through a courier.

  • He had spent some years in a Bangladesh jail. The NIA had announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for info leading to his arrest.
