1984 riots: US court summons Big B for ‘inciting violence’ Amritsar, October 28 Addressing reporters, Bibi Jagdish Kaur claimed that she had seen Bachchan raise provocative slogans like “Khoon ka Badla Khoon” on Doordarshan after the assassination of the then PM Indira Gandhi in 1984. She alleged that his statements had fuelled “anti-Sikh sentiments”. She said it was high time his “real face” was exposed before the people. She said the Indian government must also act against him for his “role” in 1984 riots. She also demanded that her TV programmes should be banned. Incidentally, this is not the first time that she has leveled these charges against Bachchan. She had raised the issue in October 2011, following which the megastar had pleaded innocence by writing a letter to the Akal Takht Jathedar in December 2011. In a letter handed over to Gurinder Singh Bawa, SGPC member from Mumbai, Bachchan had underlined his family’s Sikh background and termed the allegations against him as “baseless”. Meanwhile, the SGPC has hailed the move of the US court to issue summons to Bachchan for his alleged role in 1984 riots. In a release issued today, SGPC secretary Dalmegh Singh said though the riots took place three decades ago, wounds of Sikhs were fresh as the culprits had not been punished. Bachchan has to respond to the charges within three weeks.
