INLD supremo and former Chief Minister of Haryana Om Prakash Chautala surrendered before the Tihar jail authorities late this evening. Chautala, who is serving a 10-year jail term in the JBT recruitment scam, was granted bail on medical grounds.

The Delhi High Court had directed the INLD leader to surrender after it frowned upon alleged violation of bail conditions by him.

On September 25, Chautala had addressed a public meeting to commemorate the birth anniversary of INLD patriarch and former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal in Jind. He also canvassed for his party nominees and addressed a series of public meetings in the state.

Chautala was accompanied by four of his personal staff to the jail at the time of his surrender.

Earlier in the day, Chautala accused the Narendra Modi government at the Centre of misusing the CBI to get his bail cancelled. He denied having violated any bail conditions.

“First the Congress-led UPA government misused the CBI against its opponents and now the NDA government is emulating it,” Chautala said.

He claimed the INLD was heading for a two-thirds majority in the Assembly elections.

He lashed out at Modi for making adverse comments against him during an election rally in Karnal on October 4. He alleged that the CBI moved court seeking cancellation of his bail after Modi’s “poor rally” in Karnal.
