Delhi HC cancels Chautala’s bail
Legal Correspondent

New Delhi, October 10
The Delhi High Court today cancelled the bail granted to former Haryana Chief Minister OP Chautala till October 17 and directed him to surrender to Tihar Jail authorities here tomorrow. The HC passed the order on a CBI’s complaint that Chautala was misusing his bail to address INLD election meetings for the October 15 Assembly elections.

Justice Siddharth Mridul rejected the 79-year-old INLD chief’s plea for letting him remain outside the jail till October 17 or at least for two more days till Sunday.

“Let him surrender tomorrow. There can’t be any bargain on this,” the HC said as the CBI sought to send him back to jail today itself. If he was well enough to travel and campaign, he would have to surrender, it said.

The court also directed the INLD leader to stay away from further electioneering. He could not take the judiciary for a ride or question its authority. Justice must not only be done it must be seen to be done, the court explained. It was reprehensible that Chautala had turned into a carnival the relief granted by the court for medical reasons, the HC noted.

Nevertheless, it asked the jail authorities to take Chautala to AIIMS for a medical check-up as he said he was being treated for a fracture.

Chautala and his son, Ajay, have been sentenced to 10-year jail for their involvement in the scam in the JBT scam.
