Making mockery of judiciary: CBI

CBI said Chautala was making a mockery of the judiciary by taking part in the ongoing campaign for the October 15 Assembly elections in Haryana
The former CM had  been granted bail for  poor health
Earlier also, Chautala had addressed a rally at Jind on Sept 25 without the court's permission

New Delhi, October 9
The Delhi High Court today directed former Haryana Chief Minister OP Chautala to appear before it tomorrow. The CBI pleaded for sending him back to Tihar Jail immediately for addressing election meetings of his party, INLD, while being on bail on medical grounds.

Chautala has been sentenced to 10-year imprisonment for his involvement in the scam in the recruitment of junior basic trained (JBT) teachers when he was the CM. On September 26, the HC had asked the 79-year-old convict to surrender to officials in Tihar Jail on or before October 17. Justice Siddharth Mridul passed a fresh order today on an application moved by the CBI seeking immediate cancellation of his bail.

The CBI said Chautala was making a mockery of the judiciary by taking part in the ongoing campaign for the October 15 Assembly elections in Haryana after getting bail citing poor health. Earlier also, the HC had taken a serious note of the fact that Chautala had addressed a rally at Jind on September 25 without its permission. Chautala’s counsel, however, had contended that the health of the former Chief Minister continued to be serious.

He was taken from a private hospital in Gurgaon in an air ambulance to enable him to participate in the 100th birth anniversary celebrations of his father Devi Lal at Jind.

Today, the CBI pleaded that the Gurgaon hospital, where Chautala had been admitted, should be asked to explain as to how the critically ill patient was allowed to address public meetings.

The High Court has reserved its verdict on the appeals of Chautala and 54 persons, including his son Ajay, convicted for the scam involving corruption, cheating, forgery, fake documents and abuse of official position.

A court of the Central Bureau of Investigation here had sentenced them in January 2013 for varying periods. Ajay has also been sentenced to 10 years.
