Mumbai, October 8
Shiv Sena's attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi got nastier today with the party mouthpiece Saamna reminding him of his promise during the Lok Sabha elections to rein in Pakistan.

"Do you need a 56 inch chest to protect the interests of the nation and teach Pakistan a lesson?" Saamna asked. Referring to the ongoing ceasefire violations by the neighbouring country, the Shiv Sena mouthpiece wondered what was stopping the PM from talking decisive action. "Continuous firing from Pakistan has killed many villagers and houses as far as four kilometres from the border have been destroyed in the firing," Saamna said.

"During the Lok Sabha elections Modi inspired us with his thoughts on Pakistan and Kashmir.... Now they have killed five of ours, we need to kill 50 of theirs and bring their heads to Shivaji's Maharashtra. Here we respect those who are masculine," Saamna wrote.

The newspaper also accused the BJP of following in the footsteps of the old Congress-led UPA government in matters relating to Pakistan. “Are you going to sit quietly and count our dead bodies or are we going to give a proper reply to Pakistan, PM Modi? You can play politics in Maharashtra later, but now look at the national interest first," Saamna said.

The editorial then criticized the BJP's local leaders for bringing Modi to Maharashtra for campaigning in the Assembly elections. "The BJP is harming national security by bringing Modi to Maharashtra for campaigning when he is needed in Delhi for protecting the country's security,” Saamna said.
