Patna, October 3
At least 32 persons, including 20 women and 10 children, were killed and 26 injured in a stampede shortly after the Dasehra celebrations at the Gandhi Maidan this evening.

The incident occurred around 7 pm when people were returning after watching the "Ravana Vadh" event, eyewitnesses and officials said. Tens of thousands of people had gathered to watch the annual event.

Patna Medical College and Hospital's (PMCH) Deputy Superintendent Sudhanshu Singh said 32 persons died, including seven girls.

Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has ordered an inquiry and announced an ex gratia of Rs 3 lakh each for the families of those killed. PM Narendra Modi also announced a relief of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of those who lost their lives. — PTI
