After food, SGPC to send medicines for flood-hit Amritsar, September 14 The SGPC today said it has received a request for sending medicines to the rain-ravaged state. The medicines will be sent tomorrow, said Manjeet Singh, SGPC secretary. "The authorities concerned in J-K told us that they had surplus food items. They are facing shortage of essential drugs and have requested us to send some," he said. "We have decided to suspend the supply of food packets and will now send a consignment of medicines that are urgently required in the Valley," said Manjeet. The SGPC has already sent 75,000 food packets to the Valley. At Sri Guru Ramdas Langar Hall and kitchen, volunteers have been cooking and packing food for the flood-hit. Each packet contains four paranthas, vegetables and some pickle. As many as 25,000 food packets were sent to the Valley on September 12 and another 50,000 packets the next day, said the SGPC secretary. He said the SGPC had roped in extra staff for preparing the 'langar' while devotees also volunteered in large numbers.
